Langs Beach to Waipu Cove walkway getting ready for summer21 Nov, 2022
Work is underway on the Coastal Walkway between Langs Beach and Waipu Cove to improve the walkability and safety of the track. The project – jointly funded by the Whangarei District Council and Wairahi Tracks Trust – will be completed by Christmas to the extent that funds allow. The Trackies have already put in weeks of intensive effort, delivering onto site all of the pre-cut timber and metal required by the contractor to build the 29 sets of steps designed for the improvement of the track. This has meant walking in many lengths of timber, the bagging and placement of many bags of gravel, and all without easy access and across rather difficult terrain. Many thanks to all who volunteered their time and energy, whether lugging the bags of gravel and the wood, pointing the pegs, letting the Trackies use their facilities and, in particular, the owners of neighbouring properties who provided access. Thanks also to Northpine, ITM, and Mountfield Quarry & Landscape Supplies for their generous contributions. Completion is now in the hands of building contractors Northland Park Care Ltd. Wairahi Tracks Trust still need funds to complete the track and really appreciate any donation. A Givealittle page has been set up for donations and signs placed at either end of the track. Alternatively, email trackies@wairahitracks.nz
