Teacher and student entertain at museumA classical piano concert last Sunday afternoon at the Mangawhai Museum enthralled an appreciative audience with its life, zest, and presentation The recital was performed by Fiona Bygrave (pictured left) and her student Nadine Hidalgo from Auckland, on the baby grand piano kindly donated to the museum for the community by Janice Cormack. Fiona has a Bachelor of Music from Auckland University and ATCL through Trinity College London and works mainly in Auckland as a music teacher teaching piano, clarinet and saxophone and runs Village Music Ltd music school. Nadine (16) is currently studying at Mt Albert Grammar, and is currently working towards her ATCL with Trinity College London. Fiona’s first half included Sonata in F major K332 by Mozart in three movements, Chopin Preludes Op 28, and pieces by Mendelssohn and Debussy. Nadine played Polanaise by Chopin, Bach Prelude and Fugue in D Minor, and a most entertaining piece by Aaron Copland called The Cat and The Mouse, concluding with Three Fantastic Dances by Shostakovich. |
