Evening of glamour for Zonta fundraiserA crisp night at the end of June didn’t deter over a hundred people dressing up in their finest to attend the annual Zonta Fundraiser Ball.
“The atmosphere inside the Hakaru Hall was warm and so totally glamorous,” said Liz Holsted, ball committee chair. “Everyone took to the dance floor immediately, led by the fantastic Renegades band who have become a regular fixture at this event, and the three-course dinner by A to Z Catering was superb.” A Grand Auction tempted guests to part with plenty of money, with such treats as a week for two in Rarotonga with airfares, gardening, gourmet and beauty gift baskets, garden sculpture, fishing gear, a luxury bed pack and hosted dinners up for grabs. The event raised $8500 for Zonta’s local projects – baby packs to struggling new mums, sanitary products to local high schools and the Spirit of New Zealand scholarship to local young women, as well as funds to the wide-reaching Zonta International projects for women in New Zealand and internationally. Club members would like to thank their very generous supporters – Mangawhai Pharmacy, Bammas, Westmoreland Homes, Tara Lodge, Dr Michele McVie, Headz Hair Design, Leabournes Coachlines, Dave and Karen Henderson, Orang Otang Tree Trimmers, Sage Massage Therapy, Carters TimberWorld, Confident Care, Mangawhai Factory, St Johns Op Shop, Ken Davies of Harcourts, Armstrong Security, Kaye and Stewart McElwain of Ray White, David and Pam Nathan, Liz Ritchie of One Agency, The Mangawhai Club, Edgewater Resort Rarotonga, Jackson Brown Motors, SuperLiquor Mangawhai, Sarah Church, Top Catch, Kaipara Sculpture Garden, Wayne White, Mangawhai Hire. Special thanks also goes to Gary Caldwell of Bayleys, a fabulous and very persuasive auctioneer. And a big shout-out to all those who attended – we know you had a great evening. Thanks.
