Fresh grain and herbal remedies at the market
DAILY GRIND: Nora Franz milling grain at the Mangawhai Market.
Nora Franz has set up a new stall providing freshly milled grains and homemade herbal remedies at the Saturday morning Mangawhai Market. With a keen interest in providing good food, Nora has imported a stone mill from Germany to mill wheat, rye, buckwheat, oats and purple wheat. All the grains she uses are organically grown in New Zealand and she will be offering spelt and rice in the near future. Nora says she can mill these grains to any consistency from coarse to super-fine. “We provide maximum nutrition by milling grains on the spot for our customers. You can’t get fresher than that.” Putting her diploma in herbal studies to good use, Nora also makes herbal remedies including cough syrup, lavender soak, comfrey salves, lip balm and a nappy balm. Nora’s stall is set up in the alcove opposite the main entrance of the Village Hall every Saturday. - Julia West |
