Scottish movie to get toes tapping

groove-556A critically acclaimed movie about traditional music, culture and self-expression will have a special screening in Waipu with support of the Waipu Museum and Waipu Caledonian Society.

Musical docu-drama The Groove is NOT Trivial follows master Scottish fiddler Alasdair Fraser’s personal journey in search of self-expression, a quest that has led him to dig deep into his Scottish musical roots.

There he finds a universal pulse – a groove – that runs through his virtuosic performances with cellist Natalie Haas and his dynamic teaching at his wildly popular freewheeling fiddle camps in California, Scotland, and Spain.

At his gatherings around the world for musicians of all ages and abilities, ‘the groove’ is a through-line from the past that sparks hopeful possibilities for the future.

Alasdair has visited New Zealand several times to teach and perform. He has helped spark a renaissance in Scottish music.

 The Groove is NOT Trivial, Celtic Barn, Waipu. Tuesday October 16, 7.30pm. Adults $10, children free. More information contact Barb 021 331 551 Online thegroovemovie.com
