Sleeping Beauty sure to keep audiences wide awake
We all know the enchanting fairy tale of Sleeping Beauty and how love triumphs over evil – even if it does take over a hundred years. Otamatea Repertory Theatre is producing a pantomime version of the popular fairy tale written by Ben Crocker.
There is a strong local influence as the show is directed by Brittany Dyer assisted by her younger brother, Haydn Dyer as Musical Director. The siblings have been involved with ORT for many years, both on and off stage.
Brittany directed ‘I Never Saw Another Butterfly’ earlier this year, for ORT’s Festival of One Act Plays, and Haydn recently appeared as the narrator in Sondheim’s classic masterpiece ‘Into the Woods’. It’s not every day that you get to cast a magic spell and have your wish come true! ‘Sleeping Beauty’ has more than its share of fairies. Luckily the good fairies outnumber the bad.
The show features colourful characters, jokes by the bucket load, plenty of songs and lots to shout about as our heroes fight to keep the princess safe from the clutches of the wicked Carabosse and her very naughty cat, Spindleshanks. Colourful costumes and creative make-up
will add to the theatre experience.
EFTPOS is available for your convenience, the theatre has wheelchair access and there is plenty of free parking. Refreshments are served during interval.
