Men welcomed to volunteer team

15 MF-Factorymen-430Although opportunity shops generally appear to be a female dominated domain, a handful of males have become a productive force at a popular Mangawhai Heads second hand shop.

Local men are embracing the chance to contribute their time, skills and community passion by volunteering at the Factory Opportunity Shop, spokesperson Ken Rayward says.

“These contributions have added greatly to further enhancing the success of the Factory and its growing contribution to our Mangawhai community,” he says. “A mixture of talents and a positive ‘I want to help’ attitude has enabled a broadening of products made available and an even greater appreciation of the very rewarding environment Factory volunteers all take great joy in.”

From fixing clocks and watches, to testing electrical gear, refurbishing donated pieces of furniture to their former glory and carrying, shipping and moving bulky items from private homes to the shop floor, Factory men bring both practical skills and creative energy to the operating of the store.
“However the Factory would welcome even more men to its growing volunteer team, to support and extend the community driven growth it is enjoying,” Rayward says. ‘”You will get a very warm welcome!”

Could be playing bowls or golf, but instead its more satisfying to be doing something good for the community, the menfolk of the Factory say. From left, Lewis Lathrope refurbishes furniture to its earlier life best; Dave Lincoln is part of the product collections and deliveries team; John Lambert helps man the busy sales counter; Reade Murray is handyman extraordinaire keeping the Factory operational, and Keith Jackson tests and tags donated appliances ensuring their working status. Absent is ‘Brian’ who keeps the Factory ticking over by fixing clocks and watches and John Chisolm, a product collections team member.
