Water theme for upcoming workshopGayle Forsters one-day Splash workshop in January will allow artists of all ages and abilities to combine their work in a collaborative printmaking woodcut collage telling stories that relate to Mangawhai. Following a water theme, attendees will collect theme-based materials be they photgraphic, newspaper articles or sketches, then create a simplified collage which can be transferred to a woodcut or onto paper or calico for different effects. Gayle’s most recent work has been predominantly painting in watercolours but her previous specialised subject at Canterbury University, London School of Art and Yosidia Academy Japan was in woodcut which is one of the oldest printing forms. Images can be printed many times in many different ways and are sure to interest artists and open new horizons with its almost unlimited variety of results. n For more details about the January 11 workshop contact Gayle Forster at Paerate 13 Art Studio, 13 Grove Rd Mangawhai Heads, or email gaylepaerata@gmail.com STORYTELLING: Students ink up a woodcut at a workshop run by Gayle in Christchurch. |
