Bows and Bells a big successIn seeking a fundraiser of a different genre, volunteers came up with Bows and Bells. A theme is agreed on, this time being a Christmas theme, not only due to time of year but also coinciding with the second anniversary of the Mangawhai Museum opening, the first weekend of December.
In similar vein to a garden ramble, ten local residents offered a room in their homes which were then decked out according to the theme. Ticketholders then followed a circuit enjoying the spectacle in each home, the different perspective that homeowners had portrayed and also purchasing some of the wares on sale. The results were amazing in their variety but also in their attention to detail as participants wholeheartedly adopted the challenge. “First year and not knowing what to expect, but the result was better than expected with over 200 visitors attending and they were blown away,” says Mangawhai Museum manager Emma Gray. Over 60 volunteers contributed with a great amount of community support, which is the Mangawhai trademark, plus generous sponsorship from Stylish Homes who have already offered similar support for next years event which will run with a different theme. “We will definitely do it again in 2017,” Emma added. The foyer of the Museum was suitably adorned and Santa also entertained a number of youngsters while the gift shop did brisk business which also included a number of donated items. Over 200 people visited the homes, ticket sales amounted to just under $5000 and around $1000 in raffle sales, the popular winner being Jenny-May Millar.
