Success for bridge club pair
Mangawhai Bridge Club is enjoying a growth in numbers after recently held lessons and there is already a waiting list for the next set of lessons due to be held early next year. Having just joined the club in the last year, Sue Belin has been giving the lessons with the support of other members of the club.
Sue and husband Barry were recently presented with a prize earned in the Babich New Zealand Wide Pairs by fellow club member Bill Adams (pictured above right). The tournament is unique in that approximately 55 clubs play the same sets of hands of bridge, on the same evening held 2 November this year.
Just under a 1000 pairs of players were competing against each other for the Babich Wine sponsored prizes. Sue and Barry played at the session hosted by Waiheke Island Bridge Club (their previous club) and came second in the Auckland/Northland region and 8th in New Zealand. The result was especially pleasing as they are both still Intermediate grade and were competing with Open grade players.
New members or visitors are always welcome. The bridge club meets on a Wednesday evening at the Community Hall, Fagan Place, Mangawhai Heads at 7pm. There may also be a day session sometime in the future. Contact Bill Adams 09 431 3247 or Sue Belin 021 242 5212 for details.
