NDHB focus for Libby Jones

Libby JonesOtamatea ward Councillor Libby Jones has announced she will not be standing for re-election for Kaipara District Council at this year’s local body elections, but will stand again for the Northland District Health Board.

“It has been an amazing experience being a councillor for the district, and I am extremely grateful for the opportunity,” says Libby. “I believe I have contributed positively in decision-making and as an Otamatea ward representative. I have enjoyed working alongside the other Otamatea Councillors, and believe we have worked well together for our ward.

While she has cut back on some of her other committments –  governance, community and family commitments – she says cannot continue with them all.

After weighing it all up the Northland District Health Board aligns better with her health and social services work, her passion for people and improving their lives. She likes to give 100 per cent to whatever she does, so feels it is not right to re-stand as a district councillor as well.

“The current government review of health and disability services will bring some changes, and I would like to be part of determining how they will improve the health of Northlanders, particularly in rural areas,” she says. “Being chair of the DHB Community Public Health and Disability committee I am passionate about this area in focusing on prevention of ill health and improving wellbeing across primary care.”

Furthermore she believes she can step away now knowing that Kaipara District Council is in good hands under the leadership of the CEO, Louise Miller, and although there is still plenty to work on, some exciting things are in train – review of the District Plan, Provincial Growth Fund money, debt reduction, Mangawhai community plan, and improvements in customer services and community involvement.
