Brigade says thank you to donorsFollowing the official opening of the new Mangawhai Fire Station it was the turn of the ‘Fire Brick’ donors to attend a thank-you event which was well patronised and well received. To a large and attentive crowd fire chief Rob Leslie recounted the journey from planning to finally moving into a state-of-the-art facility which, together with a growing and dedicated crew, is set to serve Mangawhai and surrounds well into the foreseeable future.
Each donor was then presented with a certificate acknowledging their contribution. A sumptuous afternoon tea followed. Attracting much interest was the Fire Brick Wall, adorned with plaques naming the brick donors, and also the specially carved Manea and Mauri stones. Unique to Ngati Whatua, they are representative of both male and female and carry a spiritual positive and protective energy force. Many visitors were given an in-depth tour of the complex and its facilities including the decontamination system, now believed to be a revelation to possible illness from long-term exposure to diesel fumes within the garage, and a close-up look at the firefighting apparatus and vehicles. |
