Carols for a Merry Mangawhai ChristmasWith Christmas only 14 weeks, or about a hundred days away, two exciting events are being designed to create a magical festive spirit in Mangawhai.
Organisers of last year’s incredibly successful Santa Parade – Mangawhai Activity Zone (MAZ) and John Phillis – are now bringing another first for Mangawhai, Carols in the Park. A recent recipient of a Kaipara Citizens Award, Phillis says he felt inspired to bring the joy of carol singing back to Mangawhai due to nostalgic memories of years gone by. “One of the most joyful Christmas experiences was taking the family along to the annual carols on Christmas Eve,” he says. “Thought it would be great to have a musical Christmas celebration in Mangawhai again.” The carolling event is planned for the same day as the Santa Parade, December 15, but for the more cooler climate of the early evening, 5-7pm, perfect for a family gathering at the MAZ park. Entertainment groups and music bands are already lining up to be part of the show, with local acts Mangawhai Choir, Totally Uked, Rodney College band, Hakaru Jam Band, Scottish dancers and solo performers securing a slot with more acts awaiting confirmation. Supervised traffic management, parking and access to the park will also be organised. “All you need to do is rustle up a Christmas picnic, bring a rug and take your place on MAZ’s lower field for a very special family day in Mangawhai,” Phillis says. “A Santa Parade in the morning and then return for Carols in the Park in the late afternoon, what an amazing day for all the community to lead into the spirit of Christmas.” Interested in participating in either the Santa Parade or Carols in the Park?
