Junior surf club gets help with growing pains

Mason Containers delivers to MHVLS-532Funding grants from The Mangawhai Club and Kaiwaka Sports Assocation for junior surf equipment, plus the donation of 20 used boards from Red Beach meant current storage space at the Mangawhai Heads Volunteer Lifeguard Service (MHVLS) was taxed to the limit.

Further generosity and appreciation of the service the club performs came via Mason Containers Warkworth who kindly donated and transported a storage container at no cost.

The club received a grant from Mangawhai Community Opportunity Shop Trust (MCOST) which was used to prepare the site, fit out the inside of the container with board racks and get the grounds ready for the beginning of the season. Volunteers from the club have spent numerous hours getting this set up.

The club is now in the process of getting a sponsorship board outside the clubrooms which will acknowledge the people who have supported MHVLS. If there is anyone who would like to donate or sponsor the club they can email mangawhaisurfclub@xtra.co.nz.

For the coming Labour Weekend, MHVLS lifeguards will be providing ‘observational’ patrols to ensure public safety over the long weekend. However, the MHVLS lifeguard season doesn't officially start until December 1. Traditionally volunteer lifeguard patrols have started at Labour Weekend, but this year the club is trialing a later date.

During the month of November there will be a number of lifeguard training camps and events taking place, and there will also be observational patrols during this time. However, the red and yellow flags won't go up on the beach until Saturday December 1. Lifeguards will patrol weekends and public holidays until Easter 2019.

 MHVLS Labour Weekend patrols times, 11am - 4pm.

Mason Containers generously donates and delivers a storage container to the surf club at Mangawhai Heads.
